The costume above is a final sketch of what MWP2014 Valerie Weigmann will wear for Dances of the World. It is co-designed by Koronadal Couturier Ivan Raborar and Jakarta-based Jesson Capuchino
“Kadal Heroyon” is the national dance that will be contributed by the Philippines to Dances of the World in Miss World 2014, and to be performed by our bet, Valerie Weigmann.
But just to familiarize everyone, what is “Kadal Heroyon“? According to the Hiyas Philippine Folk Dance Company, ” Kadal Heroyon (Lake Sebu, South Cotabato) translates to “dance of flirtation.” It is commonly performed by young adolescent T’boli girls eligible for marriage proposal. Gestures imitate high flying birds along with acts of beautification, which is of high importance to the T’boli.”
Below is a video showing a short sample dance demo of the “Kadal Heroyon“.

As for the costume, handler Caloy Buendia stated that “Valerie Weigmann of the Philippines will be wearing a modernized T’boli inspired national costume that is worn by the regal T’boli women from the Land of the Dreamweavers which represents the vibrant culture that can be found in this cultural paradise. The graphic and vibrant patterns that are hand embroidered by the T’boli women represents a culture where images and abstraction tell the stories of life.“
So can you already visualize Valerie dancing something similar to what the video above is showing? Given that it is a dance of flirtation, there should be elements in the performance that would make it stand out and be short-listed for the finals night. Did you notice the strategic winking that is part of the routine? What do you think, dear readers? :-D
