Back in 1985, two of the Official Candidates during the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant were Binibini 12 Gemma Raquel Fausto (who reached the Top 15) and Binibini 9 Rosa Maria Hernandez. Thirty years later, the same ladies would have their respective daughters following the footsteps they initially took.
Kylie Verzosa was assigned the same pin number that her mother had, while Mia Hernandez Howell was given #31 instead. Curiously, these beauties are now being popularly tagged as twin sisters of sorts as they have an uncanny semblance to each other. Hence, a comparison is inevitable as to who is better, or who is the potential winner if you will.
Belonging to two different camps, Kylie (from Aces & Queens) and Mia (from KF) were trained for the annual beauty contest quite differently. Their individual disciplines prior to Bb. Pilipinas 2015 were far apart as well. The former pursued a professional career in modeling, while the latter was a one-time national fencer who shared the Gold in the women’s team foil event in a previous staging of the SEA Games.

One common thread, though, is that they are both gorgeous and capable of eclipsing the performances of their loving mothers in the pageant. But who possesses the edge between the two? Is it wise to conclude that the former fencer has the advantage in terms of competitiveness after having represented the country in a regional sporting event? Or would it be more appropriate to pick the one who has been styled more strongly and has already mastered the art of registering well in photographs and doing the catwalk more fluidly?
I am going for Kylie, Binibini-wise. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Mia is significantly lagging behind. My pageant radar is simply stronger for the Baguio native.
