When Brazil won its first Miss Universe crown back in 1963, Ieda Maria Brutto Vargas was an instant hit and she became one of the most photographed titleholders (alongside another Brazilian, Martha Vasconcellos, who became the South American nation’s 2nd victor five years later). It helped a lot that she was an actress by profession so she really knew how to shine in public. In fact, she was part of the opening of (now demolished) Capital Plaza Mall in Landover Hills, Maryland during her reign.
While Ieda Maria leads a quiet and normal life in her native country right now, she agrees to media appearances from time to time like when she was photographed with her beauty contest memorabilias (see below). After all, she still maintains a celebrity status in Brazil, albeit low-profile.
The lady has aged gracefully, and exudes a very positive glow.
