Jeslyn could be the first Official Candidate of Bb. Pilipinas from Hagonoy. If memory serves me right, that is.
It’s no secret that Bb. Pilipinas 2014 Official Candidate Jeslyn Santos and I are hometown-mates (she from Sto. Nino, I from San Sebastian). We both come from Hagonoy, Bulacan. So when she was announced as part of the Top 40, I was pleased to see this wide-eyed rural lass step up to the plate and claim her share of the spotlight at Gloriamaris Banquet Hall.
And since we have started our small chats on FB, I decided to give her my initial Q&A mini-challenge of sorts to which she gamely obliged with. While her answers are short and sweet, it only goes to show that she would rather go straight to the point than elaborate too much.
Here we go:
1. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a Team JDV-trained aspirant like you joining a tough beauty competition like Bb. Pilipinas?
“The advantages for me is that Team JDV is solid as a group. There’s no pressure in training. We just enjoy what we are doing because that’s how Tito John makes us feel. No disadvantage po in my opinion. ;)”
2. How are you preparing yourself for all the pre-pageant activities where the top favorites and hyped contenders are always given the spotlight? How do you plan to stand out?
“I just focused 100% on our almost three months of training. I’ll just do my best. I will show them who’s the real me, and I will stand out in my own way. I will not be distracted by those hyped contenders because my greatest enemy is myself. ;)”
3. Do you believe that good luck (or the lack of it) plays an important role in winning a pageant?
“No. I just believe in God’s will because if it’s his will, it will be. ;)”
Jeslyn is a fast learner, and she has dramatically improved from the time she placed second during the Reyna ng Bulacan 2013 competitions. But will she be able to play her cards well in Bb. Pilipinas where the other contenders are more than – if not just as – determined to win a spot in the March 30 finals?
Only time will tell. But I sincerely hope that she leaves a mark in the minds of the judges to be able to bring honor and recognition to our town.
