Best bets from the Queen City of the South: Maria Gigante (left) and Apriel Smith
Two consecutive victories in Bb. Pilipinas 2014 and 2015 gave the Queen City of the South reasons to rejoice. First, there was Kris Tiffany Janson who delivered as the very first Bb. Pilipinas-Intercontinental two years ago, complimented by a 2nd Runner-Up finish in Magdeburg, Germany. It was then followed by Rogelie Catacutan who was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Supranational in the reigning batch and which she translated to a Top 20 finish in Krynica-Zdroj, Poland late last year.
In 2016, can one or both of the Cebuanas – Binibini 22 Apriel Smith and Binibini 36 Maria Gigante – be among the top finishers as well? Not far-fetched possibilities, if you ask me. They belong to the list of crowded favorites for the titles at stake. And while some might reckon that only one of them might eventually be blessed in order to spread the geographical blessings of Bb. Pilipinas, it still would mean a lot to their handlers and trainers back in Cebu.
