In less than 36 hours from now, we shall know if the efforts of Mr. World Philippines 2014 John Spainhour will yield our expected outcome or if everything will simply come to naught.
Has he done enough to secure a respectable placement, if not nailing the title itself? In my mind, I believe that he is managing himself quite well, maybe not physically leading the pack in the endurance-testing events, but staying securely in the middle of it. We all know by now that he is not the antagonizing type but more of a pleaser. And that could be interpreted by some as a sign of weakness.
But then again, we are not completely privy to what is actually happening in Torquay itself. There are floating reports that the Mr. World organizers have gotten so fond of him – including his friendly and cooperative ways. It would be foolish, though, to rely on such encouraging feedbacks alone. After all, this is a tough competition where the element of luck (or the lack of it) could play an important role in the homestretch and on Sunday afternoon.
In the end, we can only hope for the best. John has done his 100% given the limitations and rushed preparations prior to leaving for the UK. And right now, I still remain optimistic that he will deliver – be it better, equal to or a shade shy of Andrew Wolff’s performance back in 2012. He will do more than clap. He will make us proud. ;-)
