Dr. Mark Agas, Ophthalmologist

Aside from flooding your Facebook news feed with images of this Hunk of a Doctor the past few days, the guy’s sudden zoom in familiarity was picked up by Cosmo.ph with an accompanying article. After all, he is part of the Cosmo69 Bachelors 2014.

Well, Dr. Mark Agas is now enjoying his latest bout with fame. And this Ophthalmologist at St. Luke’s Medical Center is bringing the hospital’s image some additional media mileage – all positive at that.

image

When Mark was still studying

When the Doctor is not busy treating eyes, he still moonlights as a model. Actually, he is with Jonas Gaffud’s Mercator Artist and Model Management. While he was more active back in the day when he was in Medical School, the 100% cutie can still be seen in some print projects, fashion shows and the like.

So if you need to have your eyes checked and get some inspiration at the same time, head on over to his clinic.

ASAP. ;-)

Our Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Queens were part of Cream Silk Portraits at The Theater of Solaire last night

image Our Bb. Pilipinas 2015 Queens came in full force to be part of the #WorldClassFilipina Celebration in Cream Silk Portraits held at The Theater at Solaire Resort and Casino. They joined other beauty queens, local celebrities and significant female personalities to receive recognition. It was also the event that launched our World-Class Pride, Ms. Lea Salonga, as the newest endorser of the hair product. She now completes the quartet of Heart Evangelista, Ann Curtis and Toni Gonzaga.

Several other Bb. Pilipinas Queens joined in the star-studded affair, including Ara Arida, Yvethe Santiago and Bianca Manalo.

Below are more pictures from the same.

Nina will represent the Filipino Community of Australia in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015 (Photo credit: Hector Calara)

image She is 18, stands 5’7″ and a Bachelor of Science Freshman student at the University of Melbourne. And her name is Nina Robertson.

Nina will be the representative of the Filipino Community of Australia in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015 that should take place 3rd quarter of the year.

The lovely Fil-Aussie, who is a national aerobics winner Down Under and also a mean hockey player, is excited about her upcoming participation in the national competition of Mutya.

But just looking at this lass, it also got me into thinking if she will also consider signing up for Miss Republic of the Philippines 2015 if ever. I bet she would be a shoo-in for that one. ;-)

mpe20151 One unique segment of the annual Miss Philippines Earth is the Eco Video requirement for each candidate. And for this year’s batch, the ladies have really upped their efforts in coming up with worthwhile clips to promote their respective Mother Earth advocacies.

In line with this, there is an online voting for the Best Eco Video, which will form a third of the decision on who deserves to win this special award.

Just to give you a sample of the ladies’ outputs, here are a five (5) I chose to share:

Throwback Thursday: The Year Brazil conquered the Universe for the first time

Ieda Maria Vargas is the very first Brazilian to win Miss Universe back in 1963

courtesy of seng 19200

image When Brazil won its first Miss Universe crown back in 1963, Ieda Maria Brutto Vargas was an instant hit and she became one of the most photographed titleholders (alongside another Brazilian, Martha Vasconcellos, who became the South American nation’s 2nd victor five years later). It helped a lot that she was an actress by profession so she really knew how to shine in public. In fact, she was part of the opening of (now demolished) Capital Plaza Mall in Landover Hills, Maryland during her reign.

While Ieda Maria leads a quiet and normal life in her native country right now, she agrees to media appearances from time to time like when she was photographed with her beauty contest memorabilias (see below). After all, she still maintains a celebrity status in Brazil, albeit low-profile.

The lady has aged gracefully, and exudes a very positive glow.

Michael Davantes (right) and one of his model-discoveries Eian Scully

Now since this post is really more about Michael Davantes, allow me to segue the focus to this brilliant man. You should know that – aside from being an excellent fashion lensman – he is also a Talent Manager/Discoverer (he gets the bragging rights for Eian Scully – the international endorser of 2xist underwear – who is currently one of the top male models in the world), TV host (for Mabuhay Montreal TV) and a staunch supporter of Misters/The Mister Filipinas Search 2015 (even as far back as last year when it was still called Misters of the Philippines) .

“I do admire PEPPS, the producer of Misters “The Mister Filipinas Search”, for the fact that this organization is not just about finding the best Filipinos to represent the biggest male pageants in the world. They are also genuinely concerned about the careers of their Misters so that they sought my help, having the experience of managing top international models. PEPPS is in pursuit of providing career opportunities to their “Misters” – not just locally but globally as well. So I try to help as much as I can.” stated Michael.

Misters/The Mister Filipinas Search 2015 will be bigger, bolder and braver.

Misters/The Mister Filipinas Search 2015 will be bigger, bolder and braver.

With Michael Davantes giving his 100% support to Misters 2015, the upcoming edition of the country’s biggest male pageant will definitely exceed the last – both in quality and post-pageant opportunities for the winners. And add to that my commitment to PEPPS, this blog’s coverage will be the most extensive yet. :-D

Bb. Pilipinas International 2015 Janicel Lubina atop her float in Palawan

wpid-fb_img_1429774680443.jpg The Cinderella comes home to her beloved Palawan and how.

Today was the Homecoming Parade of Bb. Pilipinas International 2015 Janicel Lubina in her home province of Palawan. Riding atop a huge float made by the Palaweños for her, she waved, smiled, flew kisses and acknowledged the cheers of all her kababayans with such heartfelt joy. Suddenly, there was traffic everywhere.

Despite her busy schedule ever since winning the title, she finally found the right time to fly back to Puerto Princesa with a team of handlers from Kagandahang Flores.

And the parade was a beautiful sight to behold, especially with the equally beautiful honoree.

Can we expect a second one like this come late November? ;-)

Miss International 2014 Valerie Hernandez Matias of Puerto Rico

Miss International 2014 Valerie Hernandez Matias of Puerto Rico

Of course, with Janicel Lubina as the country’s next representative to Miss International, the answer to the question in the title is a resounding ‘Yes!’. This despite the fact that the reigning winner – Valerie Hernandez Matias – is already a brown-skinned beauty from Puerto Rico.

But is that really a factor still? I would like to think that the Japanese organizers have started to slowly open their minds to the possibility of not being swayed by skin color every year.

At any rate, the ravishing Janicel should be able to stamp her beauty and class right from the start. In my opinion, there is already a starting premium in giving her the extra leverage to get a favored status.

The finals of Miss International 2015 will take place on November 5 in the Shinagawa-ku ward of Tokyo.

Tokyo’s Shinagawa ward will host this year’s edition

Miss International 2015 will take place in the Shinagawa-ku ward of Tokyo Metropolis on November 5. This would be the best time to book your plane ticket and hotel accommodations in the Japanese capital to get the most competitive rates. The finals venue is just a few subway transfers away so everything will be convenient.

Rakuten Travel and Philippine Airlines would be a good place to start planning your trip.

You don’t want to miss out on watching Janicel Lubina in person while fighting to capture the country’s 6th Miss International crown, right? ;-)

Along with actor Carlos Agassi, he bonded with the locals as he was welcomed like a movie star of sorts. He got the big crowds everywhere he went and our handsome Police Officer returned the warm hospitality by being his most accommodating and personable self. He fully enjoyed his time in Tawi-Tawi, and promised to return in the future. :-)

After the feature I made on Nina Robertson the other day, here comes another Fil-Aussie who will join Mutya ng Pilipinas 2015 as the representative of the Filipino Community of Melbourne, Australia.

Shannon Bridgman is, effectively, Mutya ng Melbourne 2015.

This 23 year-old Criminology graduate is tall at 5’7.5″. She sings and plays the piano, while doing a lot of baking in her spare time.

“Who would have ever thought I would join a beauty pageant!?…it has made a big change in my life and I will always be truly grateful for the experience…” updated Shannon in her Facebook account

Shannon will see if there is good fortune waiting for her in one of our national pageants

Tonight will be the crowning of Reyna ng Aliwan 2015

Who will win among these 21 Official Candidates of Reyna ng Aliwan 2015?

image

Courtedy call to the Mayor of Pasay City

Tonight is one of the most important events of Aliwan Fiesta 2015 at the CCP Complex- the crowning of this year’s Reyna ng Aliwan from among the twenty-one (21) Festival Queen contenders.

And while we tend to overlook its festivities more often than not, it cannot be denied that the festival focus gives the whole pageant a more traditional color, what with the ladies parading in their dazzling costumes and trying to outshine one another in the process. There are no swimsuit segments here – just pure joy in the appreciation of each region’s colors and celebration.

And as usual, I have short-listed my favorites to win the crown. Two of them are actually familiar names and faces to you, dear readers. One is Gazini Christianna Jordi Ewamer (or Gazini Ganadaos, if you will) representing the Sinulog Festival of Cebu. The other one is Alexandra Faith Garcia for the Dinamulag Mango Festival of Zambales. The former was in Miss World Philippines 2014, while the latter took part in Mutya ng Pilipinas 2014.

The three other ladies in my Top 5 are Jaymie Lou Palermo Pagulayan from Bato Art Festival of Luna, Isabela, Errolha Lynn Seballos from the Tuna Festival of General Santos City and Stephanie Abellanida from the Halad Festival of Midsayap, North Cotabato. Their photo grid is right below.

Jay-R Gamboa Flores from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat

When fellow blogger Remus Mark Carballo ran the ProudlyFilipinoMade National Costume Design Contest in his site, I had much interest in reviewing the submissions and felt a lot of pride in seeing the chosen winners in the same. Its advocacy is “…to promote the use of Filipino-made designs for Miss Philippines’ national costume and evening gown in international pageants specially Miss Universe…” It really goes to show that – once given the right break – the creative genius of the Filipino can really shine through in the global pageant stage.

Winner of the contest (the top placer’s design is on the left) is “The Manuvu Princess” entry by Jay-R Gamboa Flores from Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. The judges include fashion designers Santi Obcena, Mac Taug and Joseph Aloysius Montelibano.

I took the liberty of sharing the four (4) other designs which made the Top 5. Check here to see the post about the winners.

Above are the four runners-up in the design contest.

Why the deafening silence in Mr. World 2015?

Mr. World 2014 Nicklas Pedersen

Mr. World 2014 Nicklas Pedersen

When news floated last year that Mr. World will become an annual event instead of every-other-year, the development was welcomed by pageant fans all over. And with Sam Ajdani (photo above) already announced as the Philippine entry to Mr. World 2015 (simultaneous with the selection of John Spainhour as last year’s bet), the anticipation for the next edition grew even more. What’s more, there were even talks that the country is bidding to host here in Manila.

But why the return to silence once more? It’s like everything is back to square one without any sign/s of life coming from the organizers. I hope that the concerned individuals can give us an update just to get an indication that things are still being actively drawn for Mr. World 2015.

I wouldn’t want to see all the preparations of Sam going to naught. :-/

The name doesn’t ring a bell. Yet. But in Switzerland, Margie Andrea Lozares is already starting to build a name for herself as a print and fashion model. And for a relatively petite lady (she’s only 5’4″), she is conquering a world dominated by less vertically-challenged beauties if not glamazons.

100% Filipina Margie Andrea is currently in the running to become modelmanagement.com‘s Fresh Faces Switzerland 2015. And you can pitch in your support for this graduate of De La Salle-Dasmariñas by voting for her using this LINK.

A few things you may want to know about Margie Andrea as intimated by a dear friend:

1) “She grew up here.. she’s very Filipino… she just went there for work and then she got a major modeling project and she was refered by a German agency she passed a profile to. She speaks fluent German and works as a translator.
2) “She is very Filipina… she never thought out of her wildest dreams that she would make it big there in less than a year of modeling abroad
3) “She’ll represent Switzerland since there are only European countries who franchised… Currently she’s competing with more than 20 models at switzerland… and more than 25 European countries in the Barcelona finals.

As we all know by now, the Miss Earth franchise is no longer part of this pageant. So I can already smell a new one being introduced in the upcoming months.

I will post the promising contenders in a future feature. ;-)
