Mutya's winning moments in Minsk

This is the blog post about a girl who was born to a financially-struggling family, dreamt big, left her home province of Isabela, sought for her place in the bright lights of Manila, recruited for her first namesake of a national pageant, stumbled along the way, groomed for another shot at a beauty title, nailed one of the crowns, polished for international representation in Belarus, packed her bags for Minsk, spent more than two weeks in a strange foreign land, awarded for having a sunny personality, prepared for the big night, defeated the competition, became the first Asian and Filipina to win Miss Supranational and is now US$25,000.00 richer.

Mutya's highlights during the finals

For some, Mutya Johanna Datul’s meteoric rise to pageantry fame sounds like a fairy tale that would rival modern versions of Cinderella or Snow White. But to your blogger, hers is a yellow-brick road of a journey sprinkled with all the ingredients of pure innocence, unadulterated charm and amazing luck. Minsk is her Emerald City, where the rewards are far greater than the cash prize, crown and sash involved. She is now the toast of the Philippines – a new symbol of the world-class Filipina.

What a difference three weeks make!

83 ladies vied for the Miss Supranational 2013 honor. Only one was blessed. And at this point where Mutya started the ball rolling, talks are flying left and right about the heavy-duty pressure now hanging around the necks of Megan Young on September 28, Cindy Miranda on October 10, Ara Arida on November 7 and Bea Rose Santiago on December 17. Who will follow with another victory? Is it even fair to raise our level of expectations? Is 2013 the luckiest year in international pageants that the Philippines has been waiting for?

Lovely Mutya deserves all the praise and adulation coming her way.

Well, I don’t know with you, dear readers. For now, I want to rest my mind first, bask in the glory of Mutya’s dazzling achievement and think of the next mission to blog next week. ;-)
